Anyone ever done this? Any sites on this?

Thanks

Yes you can..... the LX is a high performance reg, unless you already have it, i suggest getting a simpler and cheaper setup. I use an unbalanced piston reg, both 1st and 2nd. Its cheap and easily serviced. Since your going to use it for 100% O2 and that would mean decos on shallow water.... no need for high performance here as long as your comfortable with your 2nds especially on long decos. Aqualung Calypso O2 is a good example. I got mine from beat up rental regs which i serviced myself.

BTW, are you a reg technician? If not, I suggest you have your reg done by a certified reg technician or buy a reg that is O2 safe/compatible (suited for pure O2)

Then again, if your going to use the LX and still want to do it by yourself, there is this book from www.airspeedpress.com called Vance Harlows Oxygen Hacker book that describes the proper considerations in cleaning regs for O2. Get yourself one....you will be amazed of the wealth of information this book has to offer. All are practical/no rocket science and no BS! This book is definitely a very good guide for you.

I havent come accross a sight that specifically gives instruction in the use of the LX for high O2 content but the above book will give you a general idea.

If your doing it yourself, just remember to be responsible for any outcome. Accidents do happen and the only one to blame is yourself.

To echo Frogman somewhat, why would you want to restrict a Legend to only 70' or less, or to use only with oxygen compatible gas? What a pain! I know I wouldn't want the hassle.
The Calypso 02 is cheap and breathes really easy at deco depths, comes ready for pure 02 and you won't get that "I'm wasting a lot of the capability of this expensive regulator" feeling.

The price for the Legend LX for me is dirt cheap so I figured why not just have all my regs the same. I belive the Calypso 02 doesn't have a din converter kit for it, am I right? If thats the case I can't use it. Why would it be a pain to to limit the legend to 70' and only with oxygen compatible gas? My shops air is O2 clean so I could use these regs as rec regs if I wanted and they would still be 100% O2 compatable.

"BTW, are you a reg technician?" I'm taking the aqualung and apeks class in 2 weeks.

well in your case, since the LX will be dirt cheap for you, go ahead....I dont see any problems using it. And since you use your shops air thats O2 clean...go for it.

Epinephelus and I, IMHO, are pointing out in general and practical terms. Most O2 regs tech divers use are simple and inexpensive.

cheers :)

Actually, myself and most of my buddies use all the same regs for backgas and stages. Its much easier to keep everything the same, as fas as servicing them goes, and being able to switch them out if needed in a pinch.

I actually like a high performance reg on my stages, since you might be breathing off of it for a while. Why struggle with an unbalanced piston???

Any techs working for a authorized Aqua Lung can not service a Legend up to 100%. The reasons for this is Aqua Lung won't allow you too. Possible becuase they want to come out with a Legend that will be green and yellow for an additional product, LOL. I talked to a couple techs that do 100% cleaning and I also looked at the assembly drawings of the XL vs the ATX200 and they are almost identicle. All the techs I talked to laughed when they heard they could'nt clean it for 100%.

Well in most cases I would agree with you in using the same regs all the way to the stages. Servicing would be easier and switching them as needed. There's uniformity and parts all all the same accross all regs!

Actually I'm using the unbalanced piston for ease of maintenance and at no monetary expense! :) (err, traded it for a burger)

Heck I would use the top of the line of regs for all if I had the funds....:) Sooner or later I'll replace them stages with DS4's:)

BTW, what regs do you use?

I am using Poseidon Odins for doubles and stages. I also like the Apeks ATX-200 also, and I am considering switching over to the Apeks completely... However, I do like my Poseidon's...
