Friend is located about a hour west of Charlotte.
She wants to be able to learn to dive but one ear has issues equalizing. She had a bad infection in that ear that resulted in a ruptured tympanic membrane when she was 12.

I know there are resources at Duke but wondered if closer was available.

Any thoughts, suggestions or snide remarks?

I would join DAN, if they haven't already:

It's only $35. Then I would call them for a recommendation. Technically you don't have to be a member to use the referral service, but I would fee like I was taking advantage of them. They provided me with two recommendations in my area. One wouldn't take self-pay patients, the other was more than happy to take my $275 and check me out.
