Hi everyone,
well I just got back from 2 weeks in coz shooting for the first time with my c-5060 with an oly pt 020 housing.... man what a learning experience! So I have a few questions for all of you seasoned folks! I had a lot of problems with my camera going bonkers below 75 feet. THe menu screen would start flashing...none of the buttons would work and sometimes the camera would go into some weird mode that wouldn;t allow me to take a picture. I would have to turn it off ascend to 60 feet and turn it back on again! Sometimes it would work and sometimes not. I had it set in program mode, macro , and fill flash. I had the reset turned off. Has anyone else had this happen? I also had trouble on a few night dives. I had the flash set to auto and when everyone would light up a subject with their lights the shutter would not work. I would have thought the camera might not flash if there was enough light , but that a picture still would have been taken?? Now , it is entirely possible that all of this is just operator error since it was my first time with a camera down there, but Iam not sure!
My last question ( for the moment ) is how many "openings" should I expect to get out of the "o" ring? THanks to everyone for your help!
P.S. I did get a few great shots and man am I hooked now!
thanks again

Ended up sending it to Oly for warranty repair (with one month left) and they replaced mode selector control. Mine wigged out on land. It would automatically run through the menus but initially was intermittent.

On an unrelated but similar matter, several people have problems with the zoom control being a little off when it returns to "center" (PT-020) but that is not what yours sounds like. I believe there is a thread that talks about that.

Hi

I can only speak for the shutter problem . I have also had mine refuse to take a photo . The problem was that as CrateCookie said the zoom lever was slightly engaged . When this happens the shutter will not work.

One cause could be that the zoom lever on the housing is not returning to centre position (as stated) or that one of the tiny rubber cushions that the camera rests on is missing , causing the camera to be misaligned in the housing .The latter was the cause of my problem.

From what I have read it seems a good idea to change the O rings on an annual basis.

I have two C4000Z's and two PT-010 housings.
I have a problem with the zoom control on the older one as it does not center properly after zooming. When that happens the camera will not function at all. I am aware of this and always make sure the control is centered when using that particular housing.
As for your inability to work the camera at depth, I can't say for sure if that is due to the same housing problem. I doubt it is as the camera works when you ascend to a shallower depth. Check the zoom control on land and see if it is centering and away from the camera's zoom control.
It sounds like you should send the camera back to Olympus for a thorough check.

Some people have had difficulties with their Olympus housings because the the camera wan't seated properly before closing the door latch. Make sure that the mode dial, the on-off switch, and the zoom lever are positioned where they should be.
