I just ordered a PT-019 and after reading about the many deaths of Oly cameras due to flooding, is it practical to insure cameras with the DAN offered equipment insurance?

I carry insurance on all my bigger ticket items, but with the 250.00 deductable, does it make sense on a camera?

Stan

I would say no...

how much was the camera? Less than 500? then I would choose no, if it was me.

Like catherine says, it depends on the camera. If you have a housed dslr that's worth $2K+ then DAN or DEPP flood insurance makes lots of sense. But, flood deductible is $250, which is about the cost of a used P&S on ebay. I'd self insure.

Hey wait a minute here folks!!

Depp insurence is very inexpensive (Divers equipment protection plan)

I have over $10,000 insured with them right down to my mask and gloves ,LOL!

It cost's me $182 a year and I have a $50 deductable.

No matter what happens, If it is stolen, dropped, flooded, or you ran over it with your car it is coverd.

Sandy is my agent and they are great.

You paid your hard earned money for it so protect it.

Let me do the math here. Insured my 5060 for $750. Flooded. Bought a used one for $325+ less than $200/yr for insurance for all my dive gear...Seems well worth it to me!

Boy you got a great deal on that one. I called and they told me it would be $240 for $6000 worth of cam, housing and $140 for my wife and I's scuba stuff. :11: Mark

I think Sandy is THE agent there ;)

But yes... DEPP is great...

and they REPLACE the equipment, they don't give you a payout; which keeps their fraud to a minimum, since they're not cutting actual checks to the insured.

I have my D200 and Lenses insured for flood, or loss, and my Ikelite equipment covered for loss. All that only costs about $200 a year... which IMO is worth it for all of that equipment.

YEP, i have DEPP as well. last year i had lost ALL of my gear(no photo equiptment), the stuff fell out of the back of a buddies pick-up, all told i lost about 1700.00 worth of stuff. well, the place they usually use to replace gear had moved and was not to open anytime soon, so Sandy allowed me to get all my NEW stuff through Scuba Toys. i had a great big box show up at my house with my entire kit in it, JUST NEW. needless to say i have ALL of my gear through them and i have not ONE complaint.

This includes my primary gear, but not all the little stuff worth 500 plus. Lights, mask, snorkle, fins Akona pro kit, sea cure mouth piece, tanks, signaling gear ect. and with a 250 deductable.

Scary.

Stan

ALL THAT LITTLE STUFF ADDS UP...and quick...trust me. when i had all my gear replaced i did not have the "little" stuff cover'd. and you know, you dont think about stuff that cost's $50.00 here, $30.00 there, until it is all gone at once and you have to pay for all that "little" stuff at once out of your own pocket. so now, ALL my stuff is cover'd.
