I checked the housing on the Equinox website. I am kind of surprised that it doesn't offer manual focus or even fixation. I would strongly recommend to add this feature. Is maybe the fixation already available? My normal procedure is to point on my fins and then fix the focus. The result is mostly around 0,7-0,8. With this it should work. If an animal comes nearer simply undo the fixation. The +- function is not very essential then.
The itself camera has it like all the other Sony cams: it is maybe the silver knob at the front. You can assign manual functions there.
