I couldnt find any 'general' section in the photography forum section ..................

Is there such a thing as a disposeable camera that is waterproof ?

I dont mean waterproof enough for diving, but maybe good for a few feet underwater - ie foir taking snaps underwater in a pool ?

Gerry

Sure- just for that purpose... or in a canoe.

Any camera center or photo counter. (At least across the pond, here in the Colonies) Plastic boxed, rubber band for a lanyard... ready to go.

Water gets very blue very quickly, don't get any SCUBA thoughts.

Underwater disposable camera's are rated to different depths, the deepest I've seen is 60 fsw.

Fujifilm (and other makers) make a "camera-in-a-plastic-box" that's good to about 10 ft underwater, and is disposable. I've taken that kind of camera to 60 ft. It won't shoot at 60, but it didn't leak. (Will shoot as low as about 30 ft). Price was on the order of $10; can be found (sometimes) at Walmart. Generally meant for swimming pool etc.

For a few more $, Snap Sight makes a reloadable film camera in a case that can be used at recreational scuba depths. Focus free, flash included.

As RoatanMan says, below 30 ft, everything is blue  (blue icon, see?)

Absolutely! I took one of the Kodak brand waterproof disposables underwater and it took some very nice pictures. Available at Wal Mart and most other superstores. Not perfect, but good, as long as you're diving on a sunny day in clear water. Here, see for yourself.

Hold the line, deco isn't always on time. Whoa-whoa-whoa. Depth: 15 ft.

Dive buddy Jacob. Depth: 40 ft.

Amberjack! Depth: 60 ft.

And I learned that if you go below the recommended depth, the case doesn't necessarily leak, it's just the shutter button remains depressed and you can't take anymore shots until you get shallower.

That explains why I couldn't do anything past 60 feet! Thanks for that!

This isn't exactly disposable, and I don't know anyone who owns it, but I just bought one of these http://www.snapsights.com/products_pdsc.html from NewEgg.com, for around $122.00.

The price includes 2 years service/replacement warranty and shipping. I saw one at the Navy Exchange, in Norfolk, and was impressed by the apparent quality of camera, and case. The Exchange wanted $129.00 for it, so I found it cheaper on the net....for $7.00 less with an extended warranty to boot. This bad-boy is supposed to be water-proof to 125'.

We were tired of buying so many waterproof disposables. They're not exactly cheap, especially when you factor in the price of getting 'em developed. At least with digital, you're not paying for crappy pics...just hit the delete.

It's in transit now, and I'll be taking it diving next month in Cayman. If I have a chance, I'll try to hit a pool, and snap a few pics. Either way, if you're in no hurry, PM me a reminder, and I'll post a review.

Hope this helps!

Take a look at the gear review on the following website. The first article is about a Canon camera. The second is about pix with disposeable cameras. Hope it helps.

I have a "Super Sport" camera that was our first underwater camera. It's good to 90' and it's basically a simple 35mm camera in a tough plastic housing. You can use it over and over again and can use the camera outside of the box. Definitely takes decent pictures. They run about $50
