Hello,

I am currently putting together my first BP/W. I just received my cam straps and noticed they came with pads that sit on the part of the STA that the tank will be laid on. Now, in my research of BP/W and the many pictures I've seen, I've never seen anyone using these pads. I was just wondering if others use this pad. My only concern is that I was planning on putting on some XS scuba weight pockets on the cam straps, but with the padding there isn't much room for it. Anyway, just wanted some input as to the usefulness of the pads on the cam straps. Thanks.

Victor

Are these perhaps wedge blocks? They go on the inside of the plate (diver side)... Check out deepseasupply.com for a pic of them...

I don't use them. I have weight pouches.

I don't believe they are intended to rest on the STA either. Just intended to grip.

I have never had a problem without them. Wet your bands ahead of time.

you could be right on that. Didn't think of it

no, they are not the wedges. the pad actually looks like a normal shoulder strap pad and in the instructions it shows that it lays on the inside of the STA (so it would sit between the STA and tank).

They are probably meant to prevent the sta from scratching the tanks. If you care about that, then use them; if not, then don't.

ya, i think you're right. i thought it might help with holding onto the tank since it's rubber. i don't own any tanks so i guess i'll take them off :D

Whether you own tanks or not, you'll still need to use one when you go diving.

Perhaps it would help if you told us what brand of cam strap you're using. Many models use rubber pads on the cam straps to help hold the tank in place. I wouldn't just take them off without knowing first whether or not the strap is designed to be used without them ...

i bought the scubapro style SS bands: http://www.diveriteexpress.com/bcs/tankstraps.shtml

i am planning on doing a test run in the pool once my wing gets here, so i will definitely try it with and without to see the rubber pads make a difference.

In that case, you can get away without using the pads ... you'll just have to tighten the straps down a bit tighter than you would if you used the pads.
