I have read that some divers place weights on their tank cam bands, I have also read that you should use two i.e. one on each side for balance and usually on the upper band can someone who uses these confirm that my information is corrrect or not...Thanks

And...I also understand that the buckles on the cam bands are positioned toward the wing I assume so as not too catch on anything if this is the case how do you fit two cam band weight pockets or do you have to change the position of the top cam band buckle so it is more centered?

Thanks in advance

My camband buckles are centered, and my weight pouches are sometimes on the top band, and sometimes on both, depending on the rig and how I need the weight distributed. Tucking the weights against the plate seems to be the most stable place to put them, but I have, at need, put a 2 lb hard weight on the camband itself.

Where you put the weights or pouches will depend on how you need to trim out -- It's a matter of experimentation, and varies from individual to individual, depending on body shape and size, tank, plate type and fins.

Thanks for that info, is it important if you do use weights on the cam bands to use two? i.e. one on each side for balance? or can you use just one on one side?

Hey buddha

I tried one weight and it wasn't on one side but a little off centre on the cam band (I was lazy). The difference is very noticeable underwater. You tend to want to roll on the side with the weight a lot more. I can imagine that if you placed one weight all the way on the edge of the cam band it would be much worse.

Just go for two weights to balance it out. Thats how I dive (one pocket on each side, right against the wing) and it works very well.

You know, when I was first diving, it seemed as though getting a little weight off center made a huge difference. I still prefer to put two weights on and push them up against the plate.

But nowadays, I throw on a can light, or an argon bottle, and I no longer even notice being off kilter. I don't really know what's changed, but it doesn't bother me any more. I even carried a full Al40 through a dive, for fun, and it took about two minutes to figure out how to balance it. You just carry a little bit more air in one side of the wing.

Pardon if the answer is posted somewhere else. But, this was the latest post that showed on Search.

From experience what are the most practical cam band pockets y'all have found? Source(s)?

Thanks

I use a spare cam band at the base of my tank with an xs scuba weight pouch. I place the pouch on the side of the tank that faces my bottom. Works very well for me. I need the weight that low to trim out.

You can also thread weight directly onto the camband. It's unditchable but if you are diving a balanced rig you should only need 4-6 lbs on a belt to ditch anyway. This solution is free. Try it and see if you like it before forking out cash for pockets.

I have the Trident and XS Scuba pockets, and I prefer the latter. They're smaller, and easier to thread through the center opening in the wing.
