Gang,

I need some advice. I"m seriously thinking about getting my SSI Dive Con rating. My dive shop instructor told me that it could be worth it if I enjoy helping people and diving. He also said that diving for fun (not worrying about what others are doing) anymore wouldnt exist once I become a Dive Con. So, my question is: is it really worth it?

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

Depends on what you want to get out of it? If your shop will let you lead trips to Cozumel for example then yes it is worth it. The most I have ever looked for as a Dive Con was to make enough (free trips, gear, or whatever) to pay for my insurance and get enough experience to become an instructor. I would have to say that your instructor is way off saying that diving for fun doesn't exist anymore. I would have to ask him why is he instructing then. One last thing, if you become an instructor or Asst instructor you had better feel comfortable diving with your students before you certify them if you don't then you don't need to be teaching.
