Well when it rains it pours. I believe it was a test. I had to call off my OW cert dive at the 11 hour. As badly as I wanted to dive and get certified, I really want to thank everyone here for beating it home that "Safety First" is the mantra. I will try it again and take with me all the knowledge that I have aquired, believing that my open water dive will be successful and fun. So just remember always have a backup plan if all of a sudden your "Dive ON" becomes a "Dive Off"

take care and Dive ON

I have called more dives over the years then you can count on the fingers of both hands of the population of a small town. If you don't feel good about a dive don't do it. Peer pressure can be a killer. When the time is right do it.

Takes a real man to call a dive because they don't feel good about it.

When it "feels" wrong, it probably is!

Good for you!

Thanks for sharing and for all the reinforcement. Without a doubt my turn will come.

Actually it was a difficult dive to get called. But luckily I was backed up by the doctor, who called and told my dive buddy that under no circumstances are you to dive. Dive and push the infection possibly into your head. If that won't keep you out of the water nothing will. So we wait, and the water ain't goin dry up before we get to it. And actually we still went with the class to give our support and to find out what we were up against. Actually it would be wonderful if before you actually took your OW certification, you could go hang out with a group that was taking theirs. I learned so much, do's and don'ts.

Must share this....push a button ...Down Elevator....push another button....UP Elevator. This is how one of my classmates explained her experience with trying to handle decents and accents. So practice, practice, practice... the more familar the better.....

and as always

Dive ON

In the end, it's the best decision for you...I can completely understand your disappointment; however, as my final OW dive was called as well after my attempt to master a beach entry was thwarted by a phantom 6' foot wave that knocked me over and took my reg and octo out of commission (sand got WAY into both and began to freeflow at the surface!!)...I was disappointed, but I went back 2 weeks later and did it...

It'll happen for you too!! Your doctor's decision now will only allow you to enjoy diving in the future!!
