I'm about 95% certain that I will be in the Monterey area either the last weekend in March or the first weekend in April. In general, how will the diving be? What can I expect? Will it be worth it? For the record, I'm a New England diver, so mid 50s is just fine for me!

Also, I may need to hook up with some divers as I may be traveling alone. Anyone interested?

I was looking at the Sea Breeze Inn, but found lots of referrals (after a board search) for the Lone Oak Lodge. Would that be better?

I'm also planning on a couple nights in San Fran for some touristy kind of things. Any recommendations for lodging? I was looking at the Edward II B&B, but that was only as a result of some cursory searches.

All input will be appreaciated.

Thanks,
Eileen

I have been to the sea, and it is good. :eyebrow: The diving has been pretty good. Risso's and Gray whales are out there right now, along with the usual suspects.

If you stay at Borg's in Pacific Grove, it's a short walk across the street to Otter's cove or Lover's point. They also have a rinse area for guests.

Let me know, my daughter and I can go if your weekend is in April. We have a Cabo dive scheduled for March 27th, and the boat won't be back until March 30th.

It's worth it, but it looks like the Risso's and Greys have disappeared this week. We
didn't see ANY today. First time we've been skunked this year. Temps were 54F and
53F.

Lone Oak seems to be the most popular with divers. They have a nice rinse area and
drying racks. They also have a discount for divers, but you gotta ask.

No way Borg's is across from both Lover's and Otter Cove. Otter Cove is a quarter
mile or more up the road from Lover's. I think you meant Lover's Third Beach, which
IS across from Borgs.

I certainly will, thanks.

Cabo is also on my must-do list, but my budget says one west coast trip at a time.

I'll look into Pacific Grove too, thanks.

Thanks for the tip Chuck, I'll be sure to ask!

Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket. It all seems to blend in with a scooter :eyebrow: I was thinkin' Lover's third. Although Lover's Beach (1?) is still pretty close, and the parking lot's empty this time of year if you have a rental car. Still a good dive (Lover's, that is, any of the three), for a newbie to the left coast.

I checked out the conditions on Chuck's site today, I missed a beautiful day in monterey today, although sunday is going to get tossed around a bit. I hope to make it down there next weekend.

You did miss a pretty good day yesterday:

Today (Sunday) shouldn't be too bad. The usual sites at the south end of Monterey and
Carmel Bays have protection for west swells, and the SE winds mean there won't be
enough fetch for the wind chop to bulid up. I'm off to Pt. Lobos this morning for
a Diving Singles club dive.
