Hi all. I am pretty new on this site but thought i would post about our dives last week in BCS. First, I'll say we are primarily surfers but like to do some diving to break things up. On 7/17 we dove out of Cabo San Lucas and went with Amigos del Mar. I choose them because they claimed to have a big Tri-maran. Turned out that boat was out of the water. They did have a decent dive boat but it was not very comfortable for my non-diving girlfriend. The dive operation was basic. The rental fins did not fit in that the straps kept coming off. The other equipment was fine. The dive guide was fine. They only served bottled water on the boat. The boat experience out of Chicos Dive Shop in Puerta Vallarta (on a previous trip) was a lot more fun by comparison. The dives were good. We saw some big eels and some lobsters plus the usual fish. I had plenty of air (1200 psi) when the dive ended so I think the dive was a bit rushed. Maybe someone else sucked their tank dry.
On 7/19 we made the drive out to Cabo Pulmo and dove with Cabo Pulmo Resort. No fin problems this time. Only pangas out there but I knew that from before. The first dive had a strong current so it was hard to get close to anything. The second dive was protected from the current and not very deep (40 feet) so it was a nice long relaxing dive. The big difference at Cabo Pulmo is that there is living coral. Other than that, I didn't feel it was enough better than the San Luca dive to warrant the long drive.
Bottom line is I would dive out of San Lucas rather than driving to Pulmo but try a different operator next time.
