What is the max size cards I can use on my C5050? I bought a 1GB xd card and that didn't work (will be on ebay). What is the max size of a CF card for the C5050 and what is better type I or II (does the C5050 take on both types?). Any preference on brands?

Thanks and sorry for the silly questions!

Yep, 512MB is the max XD the 5050 will accept, found out the hard way as well. I keep a large XD in the camera all the time basically as back-up and use CF's for normal use. I know for sure a 1GB CF will work and seems like I have heard others here using a 2GB. I change batteries after 2 dives so a 1GB is plenty big enough for me.

CF type I and II?

Thanks

CF type I and II?

Thanks

I found this on epinions...

"The only difference between CF Type I and CF Type II cards is the card thickness. CF Type I is 3.3 mm thick and CF Type II cards are 5mm thick. A CF Type I card will operate in a CF Type I or CF Type II slot. A CF Type II card will only fit in a CF Type II slot. The electrical interfaces are identical. CompactFlash is available in both CF Type I and CF Type II cards, though predominantly in CF Type I cards. The Microdrive is a CF+ Type II card."

I use a 2GB CF II. Find a high speed card. The camera supports them, and it really makes a difference.

Thanks, I was just worried of buying the wrong card... again! What do you consider fast these days? 60x 80x ... Any favorite brands?

Thanks again!

I use a 50x - takes about 3 seconds to save Raw (7 MB). It was the best price point when I bought. Favorite brand is Lexar. My 50x is a Kingston Pro series. Lots of vendors on the web. Be sure to shop around.

thanks for all the great info!

Oly now has a firmware download for C50 series cameras to allow a 1gb xD card. Go to the olympususa.com website, click digital cameras, pick a camera and then go to accessories, ALL. You will find a blue highlighted firmware download in the memory section.

Unfortunately there is no firmware upgrade available for C5050, I called Olympus today 2/1/06.
