Doing the bareboat thing out of Tortola, BVI next month. Any suggestions/recommendations on dive shops?

We have used Dive Tortola twice and have been very pleased both times!

If you're on the other side of the channel, I completely recommend DiveBVI on Virgin Gorda. Dive Tortola, DiveBVI and others also do rendezvous diving, they bring tanks, gear, DM etc. out to you when you call on the VHF.

You should get over there one day anyway to snorkel at the Baths. If it's Friday, the beach buffet Friday night at Leverick Bay is excellent.

Another don't miss is the Willy T. The Willy T - Norman Island, BVI

I dove in BVI several years ago and it was great. But I have not been able to finds any dive shops listed lately. If you find any good ones let me know. I would love to go back there.

Harpman,

Welcome to Scubaboard. I wish I had the knowledge to share about BVI; however, I don't have it yet.

welcome aboard

My wife and I dove with DiveBVI out of the Virgin Gorda harbor July 2008. I'm sure there other great dive shops, however, Casey McNutt at DiveBVI and the team were excellent, boats and amenities were top notch. Very personable service and flexible.

Sights we dove (Ginger Steps, Steps, Chimney's, Dog Islands, Seal Dog). My wife and I don't really get into wreck diving, but we really enjoyed the RMS Rome. Casey's telling of the story of the Rome and her sinking, followed by the dive really helped understand what you were looking at.

We've both completed ~150 dives as "vacation divers" and we were thoroughly satisfied with DiveDVI and plan to return soon.

On my last trip to BVI I was not yet certified, however Jost Van Dyke Scuba took us over to the Indians for a snorkel trip which was great and I have heard very good things about their dive operation. If you're near JVD I would give them a call. And if you're not planning on being near JVD, I would change plans to make sure you are!
