I am taking a trip to Cozumel in six weeks and am wondering if it would be cheaper to buy some of my gear down there, computer, SPG, wetsuit?, than it is up here in the states, Minnesota?

Thanks for any info.

If you have a problem with your gear once you return from your vacation, how are you going to deal with it? Send it back to the shop to return it? To fix it? I would buy from a LDS somewhere near home. Just my opinion.

Buy the gear locally. If you think that you will get great deals on scuba gear in Mexico, you will be disappointed. Besides, you need to establish a good working relationship with one or two of your lds so that you can ask them for advise and to handle the minor problems that always crop up.

Unless you are buying used gear down there (very scary thought), I think you will pay more. The cost from the manufacturer to the LDS will be the same, the cost of shipping and distribution cost (mark up from distributors) will be higher, plus you may take a hit at customs. If you want to save, buy online (I am flame resistant - lets not start another online/lds war and vote for world peace). If you want local support at home, buy via LDS but shop wisely. In any case try out the gear BEFORE your vacation. Saving a couple hundred and then blowing your vacation on a silly technical problem is unwise.

Ebay, Dude.
