You saved me a lot of time in typing. Your thoughts were the same as mine. Plus if I have some questions or seeking advise, I can go in ask and get a friendly detailed answer. So the value of creating a good relationship with your LDS outweighs higher prices.

I have a great relationship with my LDS. They've been really good to me (letting me pay in installments, generally being rather impartial with their advice - "It's more expensive, but not much better".). And in return they get my custom.

Ok, so maybe I could get the stuff cheaper online. But pretty much the only place I would want to go is my LDS. I trust their advice, I like their style and I know I'm not being ripped off.

For me, it's as simple as that.

I believe the original question was "newbie based" and I believe us regs (regulars, not regulators in this case) jumped on the can of worms that was opened.
I've noticed that a lot of posts here seem to lose sight of the fact that this is the New 2 Scuba forum.

I just came across a new one (for me) at my lds. When I walked in the owner asked me to check on the board to see if a costumer was bad mouthing them. It seems the costumer was given a $100 gift certificate purchased at the store 18 months ago. He had just come in to spend it and was told it was beyond expiration date by six months so they would only honer 60% of it, he was very upset.
When I told the owner I would also be upset she replied why should I take it after expiration date its always us that has to take it up the a**.
How doe's a store take it up the a** by giving the full amount?, a $100 was given to the store and now the costumer wants to spend a $100...simple.
I know a lot of retail stores work this way but why?. It costs them nothing no matter how long after they receive the money that they honer it. Can you imagine how much money is GIVEN away to retail stores in a year with expired gift certificates. I will never buy one for someone.

When someone dies because of recall of a "gray" market good that the manufacturer wouldn't allow to be registered, and thus notified of the recall, will equal huge civil suit award against said manufactorer.

These "gray" market sellers are buying their goods from someplace, and it's not retail. This means somehow, they are getting them from the manufactorer, unless we are to believe they all somehow fell off the back of the truck and are stolen items, and the manufactorer lost the serial numbers to track them.

HOw about when they (LP) find out a LDS is struggling and possably going out of business they purchase their entire inventory (at below what wholesale price is/was)

I have been reading in the news papers about some of the "Big Box Stores" (don't remember which ones) that are charging a fee out of gift cards if not redemed within certain periods.
