All input welcome. We are new to this. Someone told me that 720 and 1080 are both considered "HD". Due to the size of the file and Vimeo limits I saved this as a WMV9, 4.8Mbps, 720-24p. Is there a minimum that is considered HD?

You are correct, 720(1280x720) and 1080(1920x1080) are both HD resolutions. That's all HD really is, a higher resolution image. The reason why I said your video is not HD is because when you uploaded you original HD video to Vimeo it was then compressed down to a lower resolution that they feel works best for viewing on the web. Also your original video is HD only if it was shot, captured, edited(assuming that you're not working with proxy files) and exported all at an HD resolution. There's a ton of different ways to do this in the professional world, this is probably the easiest for the average person with consumer grade equipment. And, HDV is not HD, it may be the same resolution as HD but has a flaw, artifacts. These artifacts degrade the image quality and basically ruin any type of fast motion you see. Eventually all of this will make sense, it just takes a little while.

Best of luck and if you've got a super short version of your video I'd love to see it. Personally I'm a big fan of 2-3 minute dive videos.

I'll not get into the HD discussion but just say that was some great video. Unfortunately I had to skip and see some highlights because of my current location but will watch the whole thing tonight. I did see the cuttle fish and that was spectacular.

Is Lembeh all day trips? Is all of the diving done via short day trips and actually in the straight? I would love to get there someday but costs seem to hold me back.
 
Nice HD HD HD HD Video! So what's the story with the stills. Was your dive buddy shooting photos and you put the shots in the video? I think I saw the same Frogfish in Lembeh! I was there in August... still watching this one... Also what HD camera are you shooting with? If you have more, keep them coming!

@ Steve, I was at dives lodge lembeh and I did about 25 dives for 10 days all meals and lodging included for about 2k. I had my wife and a nanny there too... You may want to consider diving in Bali up in Tulamben. They have some epic diving around there for considerably less. It may not be the Lembeh Straits but it's great diving! If you have a buddy you can dive yourself without a guide... If you want to know more PM me. I don't want to hijack this great thread!

Thanks for all the feedback. I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio to edit so don't know how it "saves" the file as I work on it. I am bad about reading manuals. We are using a Sony HC7 in a Gates housing with the Fathoms SWP25 port. Now using the Light and Motion 2000 LED lights.

I have always shot stills and convinced the wife to take up video and now she is hooked. Since we are "same ocean buddies" we do tend to get images of the same creatures. I really get the stink eye when I motion I want to take the video rig to get a specific shot I have in mind.

Lembeh Resort is no more than 15mins from any site. We did 4 dives per day and then a night dive. You return to the resort after every dive and have plenty of time to read, snooze by the pool or muck around with camera gear. We can highly recommend them.

Jan 1st we leave for Raja Ampat can't wait, going out on the new Peter Hughes boat which we saw while in Lembeh. It's BIG!
