Anyone been diving on Burnham Rock or BooHoo ledge off of Cape Ann? Interested in what these sites are like.

Thanks.

Chris
I have been on BooHoo ledge a few times. We dive the wreck of the Revenue Cutter Albert Gallatin. It is a nice boulder strewn site. Typical North Shore Topography.

Boohoo Ledge is a relatively shallow dive area (15-30 ft) carved with trenches (each about 5-10 feet deep). Lots of different kinds of starfish everywhere and plenty of lobster. Not to mention that exploring the shallow "trench system" is extremely cool. Kinda like diving in swiss cheese :) But I've been there only once and stayed on top of the ledge, so I think it actually drops off to deeper water somewhere...

Burnham's Ledge is one of my favorite Cape Ann dive sites. The mooring lands you at about 80' and you are in a canyon that runs East/West. Following to the East to the end of the canyon you can bottom out at 120'. It's a bit shallower when you follow to the West from the mooring.

Usually lot's of fish and fantastic topography at this site. I may hit it this weekend myself.

I dove Burnham's Ledge down to 120' once and it was an excellent dive good vis, cold, and dark. Bring a good light and back up. Also a wreck reel may be a good idea we used one. I understand the canyons branch out in a few directions at depth so be a bit careful not to get lost.

I hope you have a great and safe dive.

I expect a full report dear large_diver. I'd tag along uninvited, but I think I'm planting eelgrass some place in Weymouth.

Enjoy!

Dove Burnham Rock and Paddock Rock this morning off of the Cape Ann Divers small boat. Conditions were very nice on the surface, with 0-1 foot seas at Burnham.

Burnham Rock is a large oval shaped rock or burm -- somewhere close to 500' wide. Not so much a pinnacle given the depth.....simply a large rocky plateau. There is a large canyon that runs East to West near the South end. The mooring is chained around a large boulder in the canyon at about 85'. The top of the rock is at 55-60 feet.

Lots of small fish life on this dive, including one sizeable dogfish circling the bottom of the mooring line as we descended -- kind of a cool view to see one of these guys from above, with its classic "mini-shark" swimming pattern.

We headed east down the canyon and hit a max depth of 109 feet before turning around -- fantastic, dramatic topography in the canyon itself, with all kinds of colorful life on the walls. Width of the canyon varied from 5-10 feet depending on how deep into the canyon we went. Water temp at the bottom was a consistent 45F....55F up above the thermocline. We did not make it to the end of the canyon as we were diving conservatively within NDLs -- depths can apparently hit 130+ at the end of the canyon.

Great site that I've never dove before...I will certainly be trying it again.

Dive 2 at Paddock was uneventful -- nice wall-like dive down to 70 Feet....not much in the way of marine life.

Super!!.

Glad you had a great dive. I'de like to go back to it someday.
