Long time ago, saw somewhere ( I think on this site) where someone had used bungie cords instead of spring straps. Anyone know where to look?

thanx

That's what "KidSpot" used to do and others I'm sure.

I recently made a pair of bungie cord finstraps for myself. $2.50 is a good deal for a pair of finstraps :)

I bought some flat bungee and then glued and stitched them (with fishing line and a heavy needle) to the clips that held my regular fin straps to my fins. Intentionally made the straps too long to start with. I then figured out how long I needed the actual strap, pinched the flat bungie together at that spot and then glued and stitched the two sides together at that point which resulted in handy loops at the back of the strap to grab hold of when donning and doffing. Took me all of ten minutes start to finish and I could probably do it in half that time now that I know how to do it. I just used them for about 75 dive in Cozumel and loved them.

It's not to hard, just some bungee and a few zip ties. I took a length of bungee, made a loop around one of the fin knobs, secured with zip tie, tied knots in the running ends, secured with zip tie close to knots and then looped that around the other fin knob, secure with zip tie. The are my spare spring straps for students in the pool.......might kick me out of the DIR club if I used them in open water.

It's what I use on my fins. I even have spring straps - just never got around to fitting them.

The thing with bungy though is that you should regularly inspect it - spring straps is a better option though in my opinion.

It's very simple and you can add a piece of tubing over the cord if you like. It cost almost nothing to replace the bungee every few years. Simply cut the cord and thread a new piece in-tie a knot in the end.

Not to nit pick but you should be inspecting all your gear regularly... every time you use it, preferably before you use it.

Here is a more conventional type of bungee cord fin strap with a piece of plastic tubing over it. The lower one of course is a ss spring strap held on with aviation safety wire.

My converted Jetfins- 8" piece of bike innertube is covering the bungee. Same knots both sides of fin. 5' of 3/8" bungee for 2 fins.
