Yes it's true there really are bull sharks about 1 km off the coast in Playa. I saw these beauties today on a dive with Scuba 10 a new dive shop run by Gerardo Rodriguez. Gerardo used to be with Geofish and started up his own shop in june. The divemaster was Irene who does a great job. We were 5 divers in the group. We descended to about 60' and saw our first shark in about a minute. About 10 feet long it came within 30 feet of us, circled and swam off. Then another. We saw 3 or 4 different sharks on this dive. We dove at about 8:30. People who have done afternoon dives have seen more sharks. Our maximum depth was 86 feet. Only 38 minutes total but I was the one who ran out of air first so I can't complain.
Also on this dive we saw 3 lionfish. They really are gorgeous but I know there is a lot of concern about the damage they can do to native species.
I've heard that some shops are chumming but Scuba 10 is not one of them. This was all natural observation, not a guaranteed show like the shark dive in Roatan.
