I'm a Fish!
Join me as I guide a couple folks into "shark infested" waters. Sounds worse than it really is though.

We dive down to about 60-70 feet and have great visibility in this area, which means we can stay down long and see the Bull sharks easily. On this particular dive we were down about 40 minutes and saw about 8-10 sharks. Have a look at some of the best footage we made. Enjoy!

Thanks for posting this video... hey - we're going to be down in PCD in four weeks... how recent was this video taken? What are the dive conditions - I see divers in wetsuit as well as shorts\shirt... I'm trying to determine what to carry...
Thanks - Kurt

For AuroraKurt,
A 3mm full suit will be good if you are doing repetitive dives. Just a single, then shorts and t-shirt are OK. If you plan on a cenote dive as well, then once again the 3mm is your best bet. Everyone of course is different with comfort and chill levels but I can get chilled on a 3-4 dive day even with the 3mm. I am bringing my 5mm as well just for the cenote dives. Enjoy your vacation and welcome to ScubaBoard. Leave your drysuit at home.:D

Ed - Thanks for the advice. I don't have a 3mm, I've got a 5mm and a skin that I'll carry... I'd rather be warm than chilled. I'm looking forward to my first cenote dive - do you have any advice on where to point me for my 1st one? While I'm asking - any advice on a LDS to search out?

AuroraKurt,

There are plenty shops to dive with, one of the best I tried (I come to Playa A LOT) is one called Ecodiving Tours, they´re a pretty small operation but in my experience that works for the best as you´ll usually get only small groups. Also they were open to a bit of haggling on price (allways a good thing as well) they do the Shark dive, everyone in Playa does this time of year, but they are the only shop that operates a dive to one of the ship wrecks to the North of Playa at a place called Punta Morelos I think, we went there for one dive a couple of weeks ago and it was so good we did our second tank on it as well instead of on a reef. There is a group of 8 to 15 Eagle rays that live in/around the wreck pretty amazing when they all come for a look at you! I would agree witrh tyhe dude above about wetsuits, I usually just wear a Thermal Rash if I´m only doing one dive but the more I´m doing the more rubber I wear.

Hope this helps

Oh and the owner, a pretty chilled dude called "Pepe" is a Full cave diver and knows a whole load about which are the best cenotes to have a go at, one of the best I´ve done is "Angelita" it´s deep, about 65m, so you don´t get anywhere near the bottom, but there is a big cloud of Sulphites at about 20m that you drop through and then it clears at about25-28m so you get this amazing effect above you, pretty awesome. There are plenty others to try tho´ "Temple of Doom" has a 5m drop as an entry which is pretty cool, "Dos Ojos" is spectacular but it´s popular so tends to get crowded...

It won´t let me post a website because I´m new, but I´ve just checked and if you search "ecodiving tours" thro´google you should find them, they were pretty good at getting back to me when I got in touch.

Good luck, whatever you decide to dive then it will be pretty spectular around here

Hi i am staying at the grand sunset princess in mayan riviera..Does anyone know if it has a dive shop? Is it any good? Any dive sites that people recommend? Does anyone have any idea on how much packages cost in mexico..planning on diviing every day that i am there..I will be down 2nd week of jan 2010.

There are some commonly asked questions here. I don't know about the Mayan Princess but you could start by e-mailing the resort. If you plan to be there in two weeks then you may be cutting it kind of close to get something arranged. Last July I did a package with GeoFish for 540US$. We had a group of 4 and did 17 dives including 5 cenote dives and a night dive. It was a pretty intensive schedule but it was a 'DIVE HOLIDAY'. Several other shops were close with price matching. My favorites are GeoFish, Cyan Ha, Tank-Ha, Scuba Playa and Scuba 10.
