Nice to see someone getting burned for this type of thing...

I can not believe the number of people I have met that make claims to
be "SEAL" "Special Forces" or on a couple occasions even "Army
Divers" (well only one occasion and I was able to confront the
individual, he was at one time in the Army and also a recreational
diver so in his mind it was an accurate statement...)

If you get the time do a search for Special Forces combat dive
instructor... Apparently there are only a handful of us that have not
worked as civilian instructors, lecturers, or consultants to the
apparently inept military instructors in Key West...(did you catch the sarcasm
there?)

For every real SEAL there are probably half a dozen "wannabe's" out there claiming to be one. Same goes for Vietnam era POW's. The little group of retired military aviators I correspond with regularly has tracked and exposed some 750 fake POWs over the past few years and dozens of "SEALs," "Fighter Pilots," "Special Forces," "Rangers," "MOH winners," you name it!
I guess it's the "Star Wars" syndrome... "I was once a Jedi Knight, the same as your father."

Are you saying there is no such thing as an Army diver? An instructor of mine claimed to be an Army diver and had a fair number of stories that at least sounded good enough to be true.

There are in fact two types of Army divers:

Combat diver trained in Key West Florida by Army Special Forces SCUBA school

and Engineer Deep Sea divers trained at the Navy Diving and Salvage Training Center.

I was the latter and at any one time there are less than 150 active duty divers. You get to know or know of all of them over time and it is very easy to flush out a liar...

I'm sure that I have met more "ex-seals" than the total number of seals EVER!!!

Also, I was looking at the army diver program and thinking of joining, but I promise you that I will never ever ever say I was one unless I actually do it!!!

I don't understand what would make someone say that much crap

Yeah, I agree. In fact the last time that I was teaching GI3 and JJ bouyancy control on the Doria, I was commenting on the fact that when Jacques Cousteau and I dove the Titanic together in '52 on air using WWII surplus party ballons as air sources- it was amazing the number of divers that were in the water with us.....

All joking aside, I really respect all vets and serving members of any armed force who choose to go in harms way. Those who pose, are trying to look good by pretending to be something that others sweated and bled to get to. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery - but it is a lie non the less and it dishonours those who did serve.
