I haven't heard anything about this and, as the former Vice President of the Catalina Conservancy which owns most of the island, I can't imagine anything like that happening!

drbill, are there buffalo on the island? If so, how many?

Finally, are their wings hot or mild???

When I was with the Conservancy I had a study commissioned to determine the appropriate number to keep ecological damage to a minimum. The study suggested about 125 animals which is about where they are keeping the numbers. They were left here in 1923 for the filming of a Zane Grey movie (generally reported as "The Vanishing American" although there is some doubt historically).

I think they do some hunting of larger game on the privately owned portions of the other islands. I'm thinking elk.

I believe they hunt(ed) Roosevelt elk on Santa Rosa Island. We have had hunts in the past for feral pigs and goats, and there is still a hunt for introduced mule deer on Catalina as far as I know.
