Budget meal in Singapore

Singapore is pretty expensive in SE Asia.
But the Gov has introduced the budget meal for only S$3.50(US$2.60) since last yr. Not a chance in HK.

It is NOT the point. Is the meal being subsidized by the Gov? I really cannot see any commercial establishment is willing to offer something which is NOT break even let alone profit!

On my recent trip to various places I spent five days in Singapore as I used it as my hub, pity I didn't see this post beforehand.

I had a few meals sub SGD10 whilst wandering around even in the heart of the city.
