This is exactly what I do, and almost all of the hogarthian divers I know. I don't like the idea of using the primary waist buckle to hold the light in place because I wear different undergarments (and sometimes even a wet suit) depending on conditions, and the buckle position would have to be adjusted all the time. Plus it would interfere with ACB's, etc.
Agreed, I actually use a plastic keeper, like the ones most people use on their weight belts, to keep the can pressed against my back... Having to constantly adjust my buckle is just an unnecessary hassle.
