New diver. So I'm heading to Bali next year in May for a birthday celebration with non divers for about a week. While there I'm hoping to do a bit of diving (Tulamben, Lembongdan. Might base out of Pandag Bai)

Before or after this portion of the trip my partner and I will probably stay at a resort for a week elsewhere in Indonesia or close by.She is not a diver and so the accommodation needs to be a fairly high standard. Top side activities not a priority as we are quite happy relaxing. Good food a must. So...after a high quality resort with bucket list diving. As a new diver I'm into topography, coral and big things. (Sounds like May is not a great month for big things?). Our initial thought was Misool but thats right at the top of our price range.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Komodo resort.

I was recently at Misool Resort and would recommend it based on your description of what you're looking for. Great diving, most of it calm with few currents, which is important for you as a new diver.

There is a great lagoon right there! Some of my best days were days that I sat and read, alternating with a swim or snorkel right down the steps from my cottage. Turtles came up and ate the grass right in front of the cottage. While snorkeling we also saw bumpheads, smaller giant clams, and I can't remember what else. They have excursions to jellyfish lakes, petroglyphys, and other stuff. Food was quite good.

It would be in their shoulder season, there may well be winds that will be a problem for boats on the surface, it might restrict how many excursions or diving you do (it did for us but not for most others). There is a 3 - 4 hour boat ride from Sorong to get there - they are supposed to have a new boat for next year I think, but that trip could be pretty easy or it could be really uncomfortable, depending on sea conditions, the new boat, and your tolerance.

Hi My wife and I had 11 nights at Papua Explorers in RA in february this year. The diving was fantastic and we could not fault the resort in any way. I really loved being able to walk down the steps from the overwater bungalow to go snorkelling on some great reef. The people running the place go out of their way to help you have a good time.
