Something real weird has been happening to me lately. Sometimes, when I equralize by pinching my nose, I feel air coming out my eye. Thinking I'm going crazy, I took my mask off and had my buddy watch me once, and sure enough, bubbles were coming out the side of my eye!

I'm a little freaked out now. It doesn't hurt or anything. I have had some reverse blockage problems in the past, but it's all cleared up and I ascend and descend with far more caution because of those incidents.

Am I some kind of freak of nature, or should I have this checked out? Anyone ever seen this before?

Thanks

Ha! Yeah, I'm pretty impressed with myself too!

Don't know if it helps, but a freind of mine has the same thing.
Had it all his life, and he's diving without problems.
Air seems to come from the teartubes.

The lacrimal/tear duct communicates with the sinuses. It's likely that gas is reversing from the sinuses back to this opening.

I know what you're talking about. It's gross and it feels weird but you're not a freak. You may, however, be clearing too hard....

Just a guess on that one... ;)

If you think YOU are a freak you should see this guy:

R..

I can do it too, but only if I pinch my nose and blow really hard. I would thing if your getting it while diving, you may be clearing too hard. It really should not take much pressure to clear your ears.

I've had this since I was a kid, and my doc at the time told me it isn't even very rare. Most people can do it, it's a matter of some need to blow harder than others to make it happen.

Don't worry, just dive!

Believe me, this won't keep me from diving. There's not much that can do that. It is possible I'm clearing a bit hard. I felt fine those days, but a day later, I have a pretty nasty cold. So I may have been more congested than I thought.

JHC Tracey! :rofl3: That's the second time I almost blew tea outta my nose. Stop that!!

Justin, that sounds truly disgusting. Wanna dive next weekend?
