srdavenport, no, you're not the only one. Bubbles in my face don't bother me, but the noise of them going past my ears seems very loud to me and a bit unpleasant. At first I wondered if it was just my reg (Zeagle Flathead VI), but looking at how other (single hose) reg's bubbles exit the second stage, I am guessing they all do that. Plus, I have read pretty much nothing but good reviews of the Zeagle.

On the "some regs have vents that push the bubbles further back," does that mean that you can buy different vents for some regs? Or that certain regs just do that in their stock form better than others? If it's the latter, I would love to know which ones they are - I did not see that mentioned in any comments when I was reg researching.

I hadn't appreciated that the DH reg's bubbles did not do that. Hmmmm....

If you look at my photo above, the upper divers bubbles (ScottyD) are exiting the reg in the photo. Instead of in your face, they come out by the tank valve as you see in the photo.

I am pretty sure that the company you are describing is not the same as the one I am thinking of. The one I had in mind is a start-up called "Mimeticus" and instead of a dual hose or snap on design, they have modified the second stage and made it modular with some new materials with the benefits of moving the bubbles back and making them quieter.

Their patent application is USPTO Publication No. 20090301806.

Similar idea, though.

They have some other granted patents to wetsuits, I think, but have decided to go the regulator route first.

I understand they are planning on going live in early November to sell their second stage and/or a first and second stage combination.

I'm not sure about pricing, but I could maybe find out. (I only know all this because I know the owner):D

I was just going to ask the same question. I'm a new diver and when I'm horizontal in the water the bubbles come right up the side of my head past my ears, very loudly. I use an Oceanic Delta 4.1 2nd stage, I'm going to try either borrowing or renting some different regs and see if there's any difference or if it's something I'm just going to have to live with.

Conserveair,
Thanks very much. Looked at the patent application and it looks interesting. I get the fequency thing, but it still looks like the bubbles are near or at your face, AND it sure looks like it could free-flow pretty easily.
Any info from the owners, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
