This is sad news. He was quite informative and loved sharing his work. His book on diving above sea level is still one of the better books on diving in high elevations.

I think we owe it to him to finally spell his name correctly. I don't know how Dr. Wienke pronounced it, but I would guess his ancestors pronounced it "veen-kuh."
