Bah!

I broke my nose on Saturday night. Not diving related, apart from it was an Instructors birthday that caused the excess of alcohol and therefore the injury...

But, how long should I wait until I can dive again - anything I should do, or have checked before I do dive again. Any advice?

Can't tell if the actual bone is broken without an x-ray; often bangs to the nose simply cause uncomplicated trauma to cartilage. If the nose doesn't appear deformed & breathing through it is adequate, then there generally is not much basis for worry.

However, separation of the wall dividing the nostrils with or without the collection of blood can be serious. For this reason examination by an ENT may be prudent.

Return to scuba is contraindicated until the swelling & pain resolve to the point where breathing is unobstructed and wearing a mask and equalizing can be done without significant discomfort.

This is educational only and does not constitute or imply a doctor-patient relationship. It is not medical advice to you or any other individual, and should not be construed as such.

Best regards.
