Theres also the Treasury Casino in the city, which is the old treasury building. Architecturely, it's probably one of the highlights, but Brissy isn't known for it's architecture.

Thanks, Aussie Diver!

I've been discovering more about Brissy on the web and your suggestions and link are helpful. I've just about settled on the Royal Albert Hotel for its location (seems to be close to all the most interesting city sites) and ease of airport transportation.

I know I'm going to wish I had more time to spend there.

There's a Koala & Kangaroo sanctuary near Brisbane that's worth seeing. The bushwalking is good too -- there's some impressive waterfalls around there.

We were in Sidney, Brisbane, and Hayman about a year ago. Hayman was the highlight of the trip. . . . but we seriously considered moving to Brisbane to live! Brisbane is fantastic.

I would suggest a day trip to the Tangalooma Resort on Moreton Island.

See http://www.tangalooma.com (check out the Resort Link, then the day trip options).

You'll notice from that, a courtesy bus leaves from the Brisbane Transit Centre at a civil time of the day (around 10.00am and departs the island around 4.30pm or later depending what tour option you take).

There's quite a few things on the island to do including swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and also scuba diving the Tangalooma Wrecks offshore, bushwalking or even just lazing around the resort.

I've done the trip myself and recommend it!

Regards
Janet

Janet's right, Tangalooma is lovely. It's almost like being on a tropical island, and it's just off Brisbane. I was out there yesterday diving, and the conditions were great.

Lone pine is an easy way to kill some hours, especially if you take the river boat there and back.

I've just gotten back from the Solomons and will be back in November onboard Bilikiki. I just love the Solomons and the Bilikiki.

I only wish it were easier to get to (like through Sydney). Brisbane is a nice city, but I've found it hard to kill time there at times.

Hey Aussie diver, My sisters and I will be in Brisbane for about 5 days on our way back from a month in PNG. Any way you could hook us up for some fun?? Diving??
It would be fun to meet up with an Aussie SB person. Let's have a few beers mate!

HEY!! Aussie Diver. Would you do me a favor? I am interested in Australian orchids. Is there any way you could find out if there are any Brisbane area growers? Could you send some e-mail or web addresses where I could contact them? I would greatly appreciate it. I promise to buy you a few beers when I get there.

Hey allison,

sorry about the late reply, i've been computerless for a couple of weeks. i wouldn't have a clue about orchids sorry. but try looking it up at www.yellowpages.com.au there should be something around.

as for diving, have a look at www.diveoz.com.au it's our version of scubaboard, plus local info on sites, stores, charters, etc. theres plenty of good diving around off brisbane, especially in winter. and if you have time, head down to byron bay (2hours away). amazing place, amazing diving. someone's written up a trip report from a dive there (sorry i don't remember the name!) in this forum, so check that out. so when will you be here?

-ryan.
