I've dived outer brewster several times for lobsters. 99% of the time the conditions are crap -- i.e. 3 feet vis. Worst was 1', best maybe ...MAYBE... 10'. I'm guessing the current tends to stir things up. A dive buddy likes it and drags me there all the time. I'm not a huge fan.

are the brewster islands a good place to dive? ive fished there a lot but never dived

It's ok, usually surgy and low vis near shore. Better further from shore but not a lot there. I like out by the south side of Graves light better.

The Outer Brewsters are nice as far as the harbor goes. Viz can vary from nothing to about 20feet. I tried lobstering there once and only grabbed two keepers and tossed back a bunch of shorts. I've heard of others having much better luck. If you're heading in that direction, the best dive IMHO in the area is the Salibury wreck just off Grave's Light. Do a search of the NELD postings and you'll find plenty of dive and wreck info. And, if you don't have a boat, I'd like to throw a SHAMELESS PLUG in here for Capt. Pat of Boston Diver Services(BDS). I highly recommend him for harbor charters. Keeps his boat in Eastie.

Hi Jim!, well i have to agree with LobstaMan, the Outer Brewster are very nice, then if you are looking for bugs the Canyons is a very good place.

The Canyons are located on the Northeast side of Outer Brewster Island. Huge Ice Age boulders tower toward the surface providing canyons to swim through. This is a spectacular Lobstering site. Depths range from 10’ to 60’.

I took this description from Captains Pat of Boston Diver Services, i dove with him a few times last summer and i really liked it, i been in Cape Ann only once and let me tell you, after visiting the Boston Harbor i don't see the need for me to drive down there.

Happy dives every one.

I'll second that about Pat! He's a great guy. Use Boston Diver Services and you'll have a great trip! Pat knows the harbor really well and freely shares his knowledge.

I'm thinking that the diving is probably better down your neck of the woods? I've been diving Boston Harbor over the past few years but I hear good things about diving the Scituate /Plymouth area. Do you do much diving around there off your boat?

Another interesting place to go is to launch your boat at Salem Winter Island. There are TONS of good dive spots out there and the launch fee is just 5 bucks. Nice launch too with docks and plenty of parking if you go on a weekday.
