RichLockyer once bubbled...
Time and comfort will make all the difference in the world.
I never had a problem with a partial clearing, but the complete remove and replace drove me nuts. The complete clearing was a matter of snorts, as was breathing without the mask on.

It improved gradually, and now is not a problem. Time and practice is all it took... same as for any aspect of diving, or in life. If you only do something once, you can't expect to be good at it.

I'm With You RichLockyer. Taking The Mask Off Was Hard At First But Now I've Got It. It Just Takes A Little Time. :-)

I once had a student who perfected fully flooding his mask, removing it, replacing it and then clearing it by sucking the contents of the mask through his nose and swallowing it !!!
No matter what I said to him he insisted that he was not doing this and that he was blowing through his nose.
I don't know what he does when he dives in the sea, especially in the murky waters around the English coastline.

Hi The_Dumper,

You Know What That Sounds Like What I Did At First. Then I Learned To Exhale Out Of My Nose Not In. :)

Well you are just about normal it is hard to do but you CAN master it. I have taught many diver and no-one has not made it. start by lookinbg down just as thoiugh you are diving in the horizontal position this stop the bubbles trying to get up your nose and forcing water up. try breating out thru your nose. if you cant get it straight away try breathing on the surface with you mouth open in thru mouth out thru nose

Good luck and keep going iyt is worth it :) :) :)

you could always carry a cloth pin with you or a few corks to plug your sniffer...:D

I too had the wobbles about this one, but to be honest I found that if I kept my eyes open, I had no problems at all, I even managed it at 20 meters in the Red Sea last week on a check dive!!

I am still having trouble with that myself, but the purpose of that in Scuba is to teach you not to panic when your mask falls off, ou can still breath, it's obtainable.

On my first open water dive in OW class, my buddy actually kicked me in the face and knocked my mask off, I put it back on and cleared no problem.

When it came time for the test and I had to do it myself, I got a little water in my nose and went straight up. I was scared about having to do it the next day and it really made my first dive experience horrible. But I did it eventually for my instructorand passes.

It's all in your head, that's the important thing to remember.
