Will be going there in a week. Do they take US $, don't want a pocket full of Cayman money to take home. Also what is the recommended tip amount for 2 dives a day for 6 days--assume USD will be accepted . Can hardly wait. Thanks

USD widely accepted. There are several different approaches to tipping. Some use 10% of what you are paying for the diving. Another approach is $5 per tank per day. It's usually in the same ballpark.

I'm at Brac right now, staying at Brac Reef Resort. USD are accepted almost everywhere, but you will probably get change in CI. Credit cards are also accepted at the resort and dive shop.

I'll be diving here for the week, so if you have any questions I'll try and answer them.

We were at Brac Reef last week and they were suggesting $10/tank for tipping. Seemed like a lot to us, we weren't prepared, but they really go above and beyond.

Did you tip the resort staff as well? How was that handled? One envelope-- or spread around the various Ops?
By the way -- $10/tank is pretty darn generous in my world and I'm no stiff when it comes to gratuities.

My wife and I returned from our second trip to the Brac Reef this past May. Generally, we tip out three services: housekeeping ($20/wk), bartender (dependent on the number of drinks and the potency :14:) and the dive op, Reef Divers...

Reef Divers has a gratuity cheat-sheet posted in their shop and if I recall corrcetly, the suggested tip-out for 6 days of 3-tank dives is $100-120...considerably reasonable for 17 dives and services provided.

The housekeeping is included in your bill, you can do extra if you like but it's not necessary. If you charge something to your room, they automatically add 15% to the bill and it is spread among all the employees except for the dive shop. We didn't discover this until later in the week as I saw a sign at the front desk stating this. We did tip the bartenders a little extra. The dive shop and resort are two different businesses so they don't share the gratuities. The sheet in the dive shop last week suggested $10/tank, but it is a suggestion, you are free to do what you like. It is generous in our book too, my husband was the only one diving so we only had 19 dives to take care of, I just snorkelled and rode on the boat. Maybe it was higher because of the special last week and this week. We were tipping as we went along but found out that usually people wait until the end and put it on the c/c or they have little boxes in the dive shop with envelopes that you can but $$$ in for each dive shop employee. They have a sheet that you can allocated tip $$$ on if you want or if you don't allocate it gets split between the two divemasters on your boat.
