Look into the DiveRightInScuba.com bp/w setup. I got one a couple of years ago and love it. I also picked one up from DiveGearExpress for doubles. I prefer the DRIS. It was less expensive and came with better hardware.

Get the AL bp if you insist. You will be back for SS though. I was. About everyone I dive with was too. The ones that didnt have to repurchase bought SS to begin with.

Also, for extra weight, you can get a Highland v weight pouch that bolts to the bp. You would likely only need that in warm water if you got the AL.

But after occasionally having the square knot in the bungie come undone on me, and never being 100% happy with where the knot goes, I've embraced the overpriced Halcyon rubber ring depicted above. If I broke the ring, though, I'd probably just tie in a bungie loop before I took apart the harness to replace the damn thing.

Hm, I'll keep that in mind. I keep my knot under the loop of webbing, so it's out of sight and out of mind. I've had no issues with untying or unraveling yet either.

Being a contrarian and having a bad back, for tropical and warm water travel/diving, there is no such thing as too small, too light. For temperate diving I like my stainless Freedom Plate and Oxy 30 MV and traditional weight belt but for travel I much prefer my VDH aluminum mini-plate and Oxy 18 MV and quick release weight pockets, weight integrated.

The XS WB101QR is a quick release weight pocket and I use two, one on each side of my waist belt and two XS WB101 standard pockets, one each per cam band. Since there are two cam bands I use plastic cam bands to reduce weight, titanium knife and Miflex hoses in the least length possible to make the connections, travel fins and the least amount of junk possible. This results in a dive bag (which typically weigh 10 to 14 pounds by themselves) that stays about 35 pounds. This leaves plenty of extra room for wet/damp gear on the return and whatever you might purchase on your trip. I use some of that extra room for camera gear which non photographers I suppose need not worry over.

Resorts and commercial dive boats tend to have plenty of lead, I only have one back and if you are nice they will handle all the lead and gear for you and I never have to lift a thing. Or I could drag all this heavy crap behind me in some giant roll around bag stuffed to the 50 pound limit and watch the baggage attendant grimace as she lifts it to the scales and then charge the overage fee. Or not.

A can light you say, lol, whatever.

The bunige approach offers the pros of being something you can put in place without taking apart the rig (just ease the webbing a bit, pass it through, tie it, and pull the webbing tight) and of allowing you to get a tighter grip on the LPI assembly than the one-size-fits-all rubber ring.

Instead of using a square knot, try using a fisherman's knot next time.

Yeah, an even bulkier (albeit more secure) knot isn't what I'm shooting for.

I get what you are saying here, but I would also say I have never had an issue with the knot moving and getting in my way.

Whatever works for people...in a pinch, I could put a piece of cave line, a zip tie, any random scrap of bungie, or a shoe lace in there and get something workable. But at a $1.50 a pop and so far quite durable, the rubber ring thing has worked quite well for me.
