Caveadventurers has a Diverite stainless plate, harness and mach 5 wing for $325 if anyone is interested.

Is this a good setup? I'm looking for a BP/W, but shops near me do not carry these. I really haven't been around people that use these to know what kind to get.

EAN, it depends on what kind of diving you do. The components are good brands and quality, and the price is definitely good, if the rig matches your needs.

It is hard to get a SS plate wrong and I don't think you could ever wear one out...short of using it as a skid to haul your gear around. I'd ask more about the harness. Is is a simple one piece, so on so forth? Make sure the wing isn't too big or too small for what you want to do.

Most wings cost around $300 new. SS backplates are around $100 new. A new harness is as cheap as $30 and I don't know how expensive they get.

Ean, It took me a long time to get this. There is more than a reasonable amount of backplates, wings and harnesses available from different suppliers and manufacturers. I got this rig from Caveadventurers. The Diverite backplate is a common design. The Oxyceq Mach V wing can be researched forever on this site. They are excellent wings and can be for an 18 or 30lb lift in this package. This price also includes a basic harness. I upgraded to a Diverite transplate harness but 95% of the folks here will say get a basic harness. I am not a young man but I still lift weights and do other physical activities. I am not as limber as I was but I am going to try a basic harness on my homemade plate. I do like the Transplate alot. Another top manufacturer is Deep Sea Supply. Tobin the owner will provide all the info on a rig you would need. There are endless threads on DSS also. There are many others available. Read previous threads on this site. There is endless information from far more articulate and intelligent folk than me. It is fantastic to have a site like this where so many people share their knowledge and experience and take time to answer what would be very basic questions to them. Also research the many online scuba suppliers for there product offerings. If you call them they are also a wealth of info. This deal was as good as I could find but you may want a different model or brand regardless of cost. This forum was the reason I went with BP/W and what a great decision it was. But that decision is another story and certainly a BC is fine also. Do your research and I am sure you will come to a good decision. A few brands of plates and wings and harness suppliers that I know of are:
DeepSea Supply
Oxycheq
Diverite
OMS
Hollis
Halcyon

A popular and inexpensive plate manufacturer is Hammerhead Scuba.
Mr. ZKY who is also a great guy makes an innovative plate of his own design called the freedom plate. (Hard to get)
I think there is FredT plate also but I do not know how to find them. I think it is by Email.

In summary, spend some time researching each component and how they work and whether they will suit your diving needs. It will come to you.

At this time I am researching Underwater Photography. What a trip that is for dude that knows nothing about photography but it is fun learning!

Awe shucks,..

I do have plates right now. All you have to do is PM me.

One thing people should know about the freedom Plate is that it's a dedicated single tank plate only (at this time). I have mounted doubles on it, but that's experimental at this point.
If all you are going to do is single tank diving then my plate would be a premium choice. It's the only compound shaped ergonomic stainless steel plate out there that I know of.

I'm just sayin'
