Can anyone recommend any good books on Bonaire dive sites? I did a quick Amazon search, but the books that turned up all looked pretty dated (ie, pre-Lenny).

Picked up a book last August...will locate it and tell you! I got it for my dive buddy. I am going there in August....so i know i want to "refresh" myself as well.

There were 2 books....one on the ABC islands...and one specific Bonaire dive sites.

will let you know asap

Anastasia,

I would highly recommend "Bonaire diving made easy" by Jessie Armacost. Jessie lives on the island and has written a very informative book. The edition that I have was written in 2002 - post Lenny.

The book lists all the marked sites and some of the unmarked sites. There is a rating for the difficulty of the entrance and exit points for each site. Jessie also gives a nice discription of things you are likely to see at each site.

If memory serves the book was only 11$ or so plus shipping. You can order the book from www.bonairereporter.com

You can also find some good information on www.shorediving.com

There is a book written by Don Stewart (sp?), the original "Captain Don", describing his pioneer days in Bonaire diving in the early 1960's. It's probably not what you're looking for (i.e. a listing of all present-day sites), but it's certainly an interesting read. Captain Don was the guy who charted and named most of the well-known Bonaire dive sites. I think he still gives a little talk and slide show presentation on Tuesdays at Habitat.

Anastasia,

depends what you want the book for- the little yellow book mentioned by scubaotter above is the most popular- great for listing the sites. Most are easy to find anyway, but the book is good for advice about what to expect at each site.
I also have 3 other books ( a bit obsessed) "The dive sites of the ABC's" as mentioned above is my favourite and more accurate with site names and locations- and it has some really nice pictures. "Diving Bonaire' has nice pics and fish ID which is cool, but some of the sites are not listed, or listed with wrong names- not that it really matters anyway. " the dive guide to Bonaire" is Ok too- some sites are not listed, and the pics aren;t so glossy, but it does the trick.
also check out shorediving.com- great pics of the top-side so you know what ot look for when searching for the yellow stones.
enjoy

Thanks for all the tips! I'm definitely getting the Jessie Armacost book... that's mainly what I was looking for, since we'll be doing a lot of shore diving on our own.

I'll take a look at all the others mentioned here, too. Fish ID is always good; we take a lot of pictures, and half the fun is figuring out everybody's name at the end of the day. :)

I can't believe I have to wait 6 more months for this trip...
