Having read innumerable online reviews on Scubaboard (other web forums are available), Trip Advisor, etc, read through pages of advice given to prospective travellers to Egypt and/or liveaboard first-timers, I have finally booked a little pre-summer treat to myself by way of a week on Blue-o-Two's Blue Melody doing the Best of Wrecks tour in July. Granted it's not exactly putting much money back into the Egyptian economy but all the reviews I have read have warned about problems organising liveaboards privately and have advised in favour of UK-based tour operators using reliable boats with their own crew rather than charter vessels.

Having been to Sharm and Hurghada repeatedly I'm pretty confident of what to expect (temps, conditions, health/welfare issues, etc) - simply more of it without the hassle of having to go back to a land-based hotel every night. I've booked my nitrox fills, arranged my reg-hire, given my passenger information, confirmed my itinerary and prepared myself mentally for the inevitable fun that comes with a 'rent-a-buddy/roomy' (given that no-one I know would come with me on a 7 day wreck-fest at an avr. 30m). Lastly I have, of course, printed out a nice picture of the boat and stuck it to the wall in my office as a motivational aid!

That just leaves me with four weeks to get my fitness levels back up to game, mail-order myself a 'save a dive' spares kit and fill a bag with several of every kind of battery/cell known to diving man (or woman).

If anyone has any specific comments/advice relating to the Blue-o-Two's fleet or the Blue Melody then please let me know?

Otherwise, thanks to all the regular posters for having built up a wealth of useful hints, tips and advice on this forum over a number of years. I'll let you know how it goes with a review when I get back!

;)

13-20 July 2012. As a keen reader of The Equilizer I'd be delighted if you are!

Good choice, can absolutely recommend both Blue Melody and Anders Samaka! Dived with them in March. Nice boat, good food, and beutiful marine life & nice wrecks. And, I guess it will be a bit warmer than in March......

Awesome! Please post pics and your impressions when you get back. I'll be on Blue Horizon in Aug..woohoo!

Fantastic trip. Thanks to all the Blue O Two team.

I promise I'll to a write-up when I've finished dealing with the hundreds of emails in my inbox...

In the meantime, the Blue Horizon was moored up next to our boat at the Marriot marina in Hurghada being re-decorated when we put back into port last Thursday. The crew were quite proud to show us around as they sanded down the tank racks and re-stained some of the woodwork. It is a very nice boat. You won't be disappointed next month!

Nice, thanks for the update on Blue Horizon! I am counting down my days!

Ugh, I hate getting back to reality after an amazing dive trip. Good luck getting through all your emails and look forward to reading your write-up!
