It was 6 am on the morning of June 6th. The skies were mostly clear, the tempurature was in the mid 60's with a light breeze. Highs were forecasted to be in the upper 70's. I was driving through the rolling, tree covered hills of south eastern Missouri. Another perfect spring day....for diving. Although that may sound strange, I once again found myself in Bonne Terre, Missouri. Home to the Bonne Terre mines and West End Diving. The occasion was the second annual treasure hunt. If you've ever had a chance to dive the mines then you know what a great place it is. If you never have then a unique experience awaits you. When you add the exitement that the opportunity to have the winning bid at a auction of over $30,000 worth of prizes, from dive trips to dive gear, provides, well it's just hard to do any better. I met people from St. Loius, Chicago, Michigan and even New Hampshire. The staff went out of their way to make sure everything ran smoothly. The Bar-B-Q dinner included at the end of the day was great. The auction really topped things off. The only down side to the entire event was not being able to just enjoy the diving at the mine - that just gives me a reason to come back.

I was told that the planning has already begun on next year's treasure hunt. If you are looking for a new expereince in diving, or just a reason to dive the mine again, and want to have great fun doing it then you have to come to Bonne Terre, Missouri for the annual treasure hunt. It's a great time and worth the trip.
