Welcome Claire
Regarding joining a club. I avoided it for years but eventually did it. If can be a pain to crossover and jump through the hoops but if you plan to dive a lot in your home country it's probably worth it. You will be diving with people of known ability and older members will have knowledge of good dive sites. After a while it can be frustrating to be lumped in with casual holiday divers and always having to choose dive sites based on the inexperienced customers when using dive centres.
Croatia is a great place to dive but research your destination. Vis island has some fantastic wrecks, I heard Korcula was good and there is also some great wrecks in the North (but less visibility). Some areas are pretty devoid of life. To be honest I found Malta so-so. Very little life, some good deeper wrecks but the purpose sunk ones were pretty boring. Along with Medes Islands, Cabo de Palos in Murcia had some of the best life I've seen in the Med.I'm keeping the Malta/Gozo wrecks trip for next year so I'll have more training and equipment (photography). I heard croatia is a great place to dive, I'll check it out. Any recommendations for flooded mines in Germany? I'll have to wait until I get the proper training.
