I own the Bonica Snapper DV camera and I'd like to upgrade to HD to go with all of my landlubber video gear. A replacement Snapper HDDV can be had for about $240.00, but will it fit in the same housing as the Snapper DV? I've seen the housing sold on some websites as being compatible with both, but the 16:9 format of the flip out LCD would be a problem I think, unless the screens are the same size with just the aspect ratio being different.

Does anyone have both and maybe tried the HDDV in the DV housing?:crafty:

You might try contacting their rep: ScubaBoard - View Profile: Bonica Mic

although he hasn't been on the board since mid-Jan. There is contact info in his profile.

I'll double check the model numbers when I get home. But I upgraded my camera to the new 60fps HD model and it fit without any problems. It looks like basically the same camera.

Thank you both. I've emailed Bonica Mic already so we'll see what he says. In the meantime, if you could let me know as well gearhound, that would be great. The water temperature in the Gulf is rising SLOWLY and I'm getting the itch to shoot some watery video!

Now I'm not too sure. My old camera has Snapper HDDV on the side and the new one has Snapper HDDV 1080p on the side. These two are identical in apperance except for color. And they both fit into my housing without a problem.

Hmm...maybe your old one was a 720p camera and the new one has the higher resolution? Well, for the $240, I might just take a leap and buy the HD version and see if it fits myself...or Bonica Mic might get back to me...hmmm.

Hey there LouCap....we're a Bonica dealer. Shoot me an email at dave@indianvalleyscuba.com with your camera model and I will have an answer for you today. Plus a great price!

Thanks for the response. Actually, Michael from Bonica emailed me and informed me that YES the skin and housing for the Snapper DV WILL WORK for the HDDV camera as well.
