Bonaire will probably be our next dive vacation, though it will be hard to not go to Cozumel again. Jepuskar, any advise on where to stay?
:guitar:

By the way, I heard the water there is very drinkable. I've heard someone say that it tastes even better than some bottled waters...

The fresh water system on Bonaire is desalinated sea water, so it is essentially distilled, pure and fresh.
My favorites on Bonaire are Buddy Dive and Lion's Dive. There are fancier more expensive places and plainer less expensive places, but for a "good" place to stay with good dive shops and drive-thru tank availability both are excellent.

Sharkman, I have never stayed at Lions Dive or Buddy Dive, but I definetly have trolled up the premises of both and they do look like they have their act together..very convenient.

My two times there was spent at Captain Don's and Divi Flamingo. Out of the two, I would stay at Divi Flamingo again. Better prices, restaurant, and nicer grounds...IMO.

Both dive shops have excellent dive masters and facilities. As far as ease of getting in the water, Divi Flamingo has their tanks right on the dock you jump in from..convenient.

You really can't go wrong on Bonaire...no matter where you stay the diving is awesome. I wouldn't be surprised if I went again this year..even though I have no vacation time left..hehehe

:)

Have to agree with Rick. We have stayed at Buddy for the last 3 years and have reservations for July. The water is safe to drink and I put down a lot of it when on the island. Another place to look at is Sand Dollar. They are beside Buddy. SD got hit pretty hard a couple of years ago by wave action from hurricane Lenny but they have rebuilt the dive shop, got a new manager (ex Buddy manager)and things are looking up there. They are worth giving a try as well.
Here is a web site to check out for some Bonaire Junkies (and a lot of good advise) www.bonairetalk.com

For those that knew the Green Parrot rest at SD, I hear that there are plans to build a new restaurant on the water where the Parrot was. I sure hope it is ready by July.

Jep, what you have is know as PBD (Post Bonaire Depression). There is no known cure, you can only get relief by going back!!

Herman,

Ohh I am very familiar with PBD. Here is basically my diving career...got certified late August 2002, Bonaire trip November 2002 and Bonaire trip February 2003.

Was a regular for a couple weeks at www.bonairetalk.com but decided its not healthy to visit that website.

I am going to Cozumel in about 3 weeks and ofcourse will compare the two. I realize the diving is different and there will actually be current..etc etc, but nonetheless, I will compare.

It should be interesting how I feel once I get back. If I still have a desire to go to Bonaire..I'm in big trouble. :/

I too can't wait to visit Bonaire. I will be spending a week of our honeymoon at Buddy Dive before moving on to a week on Curacao at Sunset Waters. Just 53 days and counting!

I did Cozumel first and then Bonaire. I was pretty diasppointed in Bonaire. Couldn't compare to Coz in my opinion. I liked the laid-back go-at-your-own-pace in Bonaire, but the diving was not as good as Coz.
