Just returned from a week's stay in Bonaire. Stayed at the Caribbean Club Bonaire near Oil Slick. Nice place, clean and quiet. The dive shop is part of Buddy Dive. A good option to have tanks there (pick-up and drop off) so not to have to drive down the road to BD.

We made 3 dives in the national park. Playa Funchi, Wayaka II, and Boka Slaagbi(sp?). All three were interesting, but WayakaII was my favorite. We looked at the 2 sites north, but the seas and wind and swell didn't look conducive to a safe dive.

We saw lionfish on all of our dives. Sometimes 1-2 and sometimes 15. The Marine Park people need to start taking a much more aggressive action than the current "flag and hunt later" approach.

Lots of divers were on the island this week. Almost every site we went to had other divers already on the site or they drove up while we were there. This included the national park trip. Late in the week, the Hilma Hooker had 3-4 dive boats tied to her and 5-6 cars parked at the site.

Vis was good on most of the sites, 70+ feet. Water temps were near 80. Maybe 79 on a few sites, maybe 81 on others. 15 minutes into the dive at Playa Funchi a strong current appeared from nowhere! All other dives had slight to no current.

I saw a free swimming green moray on Andrea I at 30' and ONE seahorse at 70'.

The wind blew hard every day and it rained 6 out of the 7 days. Sometimes late at night, sometimes 8AM, 2PM, 10AM, 6PM, just whenever. And not a light rain for 2 seconds, but a good 15-20 minute soaker. The mosquitoes, plants, flowers, and birds loved it.

Once I sort thru my pics, I'll post a few on here. Here are some topside pics. Bonaire Land 2011 079.jpgBonaire Land 2011 094.jpg

Where is that "almost a beach" ?
From the terrain, it had to be on the north half (i.e. clockwise from Buddy), so I pulled up Google Earth and started following the shoreline. I found it (after a bit of scrolling) at 12° 16.174' N 68° 24.830' W... It's Wayaka II, and I even found a panorama that matches.

(Just checked BSDME, and it matches the description. Gotta be Wayaka II, then.)
