Hi all,

I'm in the middle of putting a trip together to Bonaire September 24 to October 1. I had wanted to stay at Buddy Dive earlier in September to take advantage of their every other diver free special and the fact that Ned and Anna DeLoach will be there, but Buddy Dive is all booked for the time Ned and Anna will be there. So I figured I'd still get in on the every other diver free special for the month of September. But now I'm reading about wind reversals and potential coral bleaching later in the year and I'm wondering if it would be better to just go in August.

Any thoughts on Bonaire in late September would be welcome.

Thanks,

Jason

I just returned from Bonaire. For two days, the wind blew about 20 mph from the south. Very unusual. A year ago, the wind blew hard for a day from the northwest creating horrible vis. on the west side. In August. The point is that you cannot predict what will or won't happen with the weather. Some generalizations apply such as the rainy season being late Oct. to early Dec. But last year, there were many more days of rain; some years there is almost none. As for the coral bleaching, I have seen those reports, but I don't think the water is warm enough to support bleaching that is temperature based. It was consistently 80 F while we were there, with a 2 degr drop around 60-70 ft, sometimes as shallow as 40-50 ft. At least at Bari Reef. I would guess that any of the events you are worrying about are equally likely in August and September.
