Does anyone know if many (any) of the restaurants on Bonaire accept American Express?

We would like to carry less cash on our trip, and AMX doesn’t charge international fees, as long as the transactions are in dollars.

Thanks

Not many do. I take my Capitol One Mastercard as they don't charge for international fees.

Some do (Bambu, Casablanca, Vespucci) - check each listing here for those that do: Bonaire Dining Guide

I have a card from Chase, they don't....or at least have not yet charged me any fees. Since the official currency of Boniare is now the US dollar, there is no reason for any of them to charge extra.

Woody.. I think you'll find that most restaurants on Bonaire do not accept AMEX. Of course there are exceptions. From what I hear from the merchants the fees are too high & it takes a long time for them to get paid.

Thanks all for the feedback.

P.S. I checked on using my VISA and the bank said it is only a 0.8% charge to use that internationally, as long as the charge is in dollars.

Woody, I think that is unacceptable!! I have never been charged any fees for using my card and always get a good rate exchange in whatever country I'm in. I would look for a new card.
