Maybe. You have to admit though, it sort of Americanizes the place. It's already bad enough everyone speaks English and they don't force us to speak Dutch or Papamiento and eat goats and iguanas. (That's probably a Dutch thing. I tried learning a few words and phrases before visiting Amsterdam, but everyone there is so proud to show off that they speak fluent English, they actually pretended not to understand my weak attempts at their godawfully confounding language.)

Agreed - plus I miss doing the conversions as the prices always looked better in US$$. I do bring my Papamiento phrase book and try to use a bit, learn a new word a day. It's annoying our Dutch friends speak 5 or 6 languages and speak better English than we do. I try my rusty German out on them and we all laugh and have another beer.

Exactly. If you can't beat them at language, beat them at beer chugging. The Dutch are used to teeny little beer glasses which they only fill up to the line, not to the brim, and they are so picky, they have to have a special glass for each brand of beer. Give me an unmarked pint glass, or better yet a schooner, and I'll blow them away every time.

Don't worry about being forced to eat goat. Do it anyways, it's delicious.

I don't even like lamb, which at least are cute cuddly creatures. Goats are mean and they eat everything. A goat ate my shoelace one time. Talk about stringy meat.

I've heard some insects can be prepared so they taste good, but I pass on those too. I'm not a picky eater by any means, as I'll try all sorts of seafood whether raw or cooked, but insects and goats and any sort of reptile are off my list. So are horses, dogs, cats, and people. On the other hand, I'm just as averse to going to KFC or Subway in Bonaire as I am eating goats and iguanas, and beef stoba already tastes so good I can't believe it needs goat to be better.

Thanks everyone for the help. I will be looking forward to chowing down on some goat.
Make sure they're dead first.

With all the donkeys on the island, I'm surprise donkey stoba isn't on the menu.

And why doesn't anyone eat flamingos? They'd probably taste excellent considering all the shrimp they eat, versus what goats will devour.
