I was just google earthing (verb?) Bonaire and noticed there was what appears to be a street grid submerged in the evaporating pond opposite Red Slave. Is this an old townsite, fort or salt works? My impression was that the Rincon was located for defense purposes as well as to catch the cooler air. That always seemed odd because it's so inconvenient. The other notion was that the laborers were isolated up there to keep them in check. History can be unpleasant at times.

I believe those are just working/access roads and dikes/irrigation channels for the saltworks.
