Sassuba, I agree thats why I always wear a full wetsuit. I did get stung by something last year on my face fortunately it was not a severe sting.

Are the Box jellies easy to see? At night or Day? I have a 3mm full or a shorty.

Hey 1 T Sub-Ill be ther the last week in August (3rd trip) Ill post a report on my return...
You'll love Bon-The diving freedom and healthy reefs are a treat!
Pick up a copy of Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy-lots of great info there..

I wear a 3ml shorty and have been fine..no box jellies but got stung by a sea wasp snorkeling in a bathing suit at night-not really a big deal..We arrived late in the day and I just had to get in the water!

ps-my avatar is a sunset from buddies..

I saw jellies at night, begining of the month, last November. They seemed to school up and tended to be in the upper 3 ft. (1 m.) of the water column. Look up before ascending from your safety stop.

For this reason, plus the fire coral, I dive with a full coverage suit (Akona 3/2mm). Some of the people on my recent trips used lightweight beanies or tropic hoods.

actually there are also what are called sea wasps. or at least they were about in Sept 2006....never saw any box jellies then.

The sea wasps are hard to see. they come from the depths at night to lure around the lighted piers like mosquitos on a porch light.

they look like condoms floating in the water.

a guy got hit bad while snorkeling around the pier at night. we always went out and came back in from the edge of the slope (about 20 ft deep) with our lights off, because the sea wasps follow the light.

use your octo to blow away potential tenticals lurking around the stairs/ladder before you pop up out of the water surface.

have fun....hope u go when the coral is spawning:D
