tiggrr,

Thanks for posting those film clips. Seeing some of the actual dive sites and water conditions has calmed some of my fears of shore diving. After reading some of the posts here and on BonaireTalk concerning entries and injuries and reading some of the entry descriptions in the BSDME book I was starting to imagine 15' waves, 500 yard treks across jagged iron coral carrying 60# of scuba gear and then a 500 yard swim to the reef.

Maybe I'm up for this afterall.

I knew you would like it>:)

Noooooo will be very easy for the majority of spots.

You can handle it for sure!!!

Eeeek next week!!!!!

Ok, gotta do more homework..... :D

Tiggrr,

I am preceding you to Bonaire.

I'll see if I have little enough weight to maybe bring a something along.

Preceding....that means you will be there before me???

Don't make me open a dictionary.......online. :D

What do you mean??? Aren't you gonna be there after us???

How did I ever make it this far??

It tough when life is confusing.....

Tiggrr,

I'm leaving tomorrow night for Atlanta, then on to Bonaire Saturday. WIll try to get over to Golden Reef for the BBQ Sunday.

You have a most excellent travel down there and I expect some updates here and there please!! :D

3. We plan on buying some groceries to keep expenses down. What are our options for groceries and would it be worth the hassel to bring some food from home (spices, etc.)?

Sure, if you have a spice or condiment you have to have and you cannot get it anywhere else then by all means, bring it down. Shop at More For Less for organic produce and lovely Dutch and Indonesian products/sauces/spices. Shop La Portugesa for great fruit and veggies. Shop Warehouse for everything. Go to Progresso for beer and some staples.

4. What is your favorite spot to eat?

I have too many spots that I love but the 13.00 bar hap/menu at Mona Lisa (eat outside) is a killer deal. Ask for the bar menu. Bobbijan's is 6.00-10.00 USD pp on weekends. Super BBQ. I love to go to Lize on the weekends for take out Surinamese food. She also has a food stall at Wilhelmina Park when the dreaded cruise ships are in. Cheap and delicious food. Wil's has great food. Love the tuna sashimi at Cactus Blue and La Luna. Bistro has nice French food. Rum Runners has great salads and the lover's table is practically in the sea. I hear Cocos next to Havana has cheap and delicious Surinames food. Bambu is reliable but smaller portions which some Americans may not appreciate. Lovely presentation. Le Flamboyant has a 6 USD lunch special and the breeziest location. Warang Louise has Rice Table. Not to miss for a group. Plazita Limena has great Peruvian food but oh so slow service at times to relax and enjoy. You will love it. El Fagon has great grilled Columbia fare. Capriccio's has the best wine list on island IMHO and great homemade pasta and HOMEMADE GELATTO. Hotel Roomer has a lovely poolside charming area to dine. Quite nice. Rose Inn in Rincon is a nice place for a post Sunday AM dive. Great local eats. This is where to go after 1000 Steps or Karpata. I am tired of writing so will let others chime in. Oh Exito Bakery has great Latin style desserts and great bread and sandwiches to go..it is next to Wils Grill.

Hi all. I've been reading your thread and hoping to get down to Bonaire at the end of March.

Any thoughts on good but not too expensive places to stay?

thanks a million!

edit: I've been reading the threads on Bonaire Talk but am just curious what you all think. I'll probably be going by myself so am looking for somewhere that feels safe for a lone female to be. Haven't been to Bonaire so if it's super safe everywhere, disregard this!!

Honu girl,

I was recently on Bonaire and stayed at the Carribean Club Bonaire. The resort is located north of town near Oil Slick. They have really good rates on a couple of their rooms. The rooms are simple but clean. I went to dive, so I was not too interested in amenities at the resort and I think that worked well at the Carribean Club. The Carribean Club is affiliated with Buddy Dive so you can get tanks at Buddy's Drive Up Fill Station as well as at the Carribean Club.

Driving up to the resort got to be a little old by the end of the week, but it worked really well for what we were interested in. They offered a breakfast every morning that consisted of eggs to order, fruit, lunch meat, and occasionally pancakes.

This was my third trip to Bonaire. The first two times we stayed at Buddy Dive. We decided to stay at the Carribean Club this time to save some money and try something new.

Good luck and have a fun trip.

Ryan
