Just went through last week as well, they now staple them to your boarding pass, and there is a big sign highlighted in the front Window "Boarding pass required to pay departure tax"..

This is a new change. NOTE: YOU NOW HAVE TO HAVE YOUR BOARDING PASS IN ORDER TO PURCHASE YOUR DEPARTURE TAX. ALSO, IT WAS ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT EFFECTIVE 1 JANUARY 2008, THEY WILL NOW HAVE A NEW FEE OF NAF 2,50 OR $1.40. Please see below, that was posted on The Bonaire Insider - The latest independent tourism news from the Caribbean island of Bonaire - Home Page

Bonaire International Airport, better known as Flamingo Airport, announced today that beginning January 1st, 2008 a new fee of FL 2.50 (USD $1.40) will be assessed to all passengers departing from Bonaire. With the income derived from this fee, the airport will be able to drastically increase the level of security it offers its passengers.

I have not yet found out how this fee will be assessed, whether in ticket prices or if you will have to pay it separately. I am looking into it and will let you all know.

Thanks.

Liz

Thanks for letting us know. Saves an unnecessary trip to airport to get it early in Jan.

According to the same link Liz posted:

The security fee can be paid at the same when paying the departure tax. (Source: Bonaire International Airport (BIA) N.V.)

I find it interesting that the cruise ship passengers Still pay no head tax or Marine Park fees (unless they dive in which case they pay a $10 day fee) for their visits to Bonaire but stay over tourists get to pay yet another tax even though it is a small amount. Without taking into account taxes relating to hotels, the average stay over tourist who dives already drops $32 for departure and $25 for their dive tag. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
